Apostle Bartholomew

The Acts of Philip, written in the 300s, tells us that the apostle Philip, his sister Mariamne, and the apostle Bartholomew were sent on a mission journey through Greece, Syria, and Phrygia in Asia Minor shortly after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Acts of Philip also has Bartholomew in Hierapolis during Philip’s martyrdom in 80. After Philip’s martyrdom, Bartholomew apparently became a missionary among the people of Phrygia. And accord- ing to John Chrysostom, Bartholomew also went on an eastern mission journey to the Armenians. Church tradition has Bartholomew dying in the region of modern Azerbaijan.
