Bishop Hypatius of Ephesus (d. AD 700s)

Hypatius served as the bishop of Ephesus (modern Selçuk) in the 700s. He opposed emperor Leo III when he began to destroy Christian icons. As a result, Hypatius was imprisoned and tortured. When he continued to defend Christian icons, he was killed, and his body was thrown into the street so wild dogs could eat it.
