Bishop Severus in Antioch (Antakya) (AD 456-539)

Severus was a strong supporter of Monophysite Christianity and became the bishop of Antioch (mod- ern Antakya). Although he was supported by empress Theodora, he was opposed by emperor Justinian and bishop Menas, both champions of Nicene orthodox Christianity. Fleeing Antioch, Severus went to Egypt where he lived until his death around 539. He was one of the primary founders of the Syraic Orthodox Church and the Monophysite Christian movement.
