Caesarius the Physician of Nazianzus/Karballa/Güzelyurt (AD 331-368)

Caesarius was the first son and oldest child of Gregory the Elder and Nonna, born in Karballa (modern Güzelyurt) in 331. After studying in Caesarea and Alexandria, Caesarius became a medical doctor. Around 355, he began serving as the court physician in Constantinople. He was tragically killed by a plague in 368. After his death, his large estate was raided and looted. His brother, Gregory the Theologian, gave what remained of his property to the poor and to surviving family members.
