Gabriel Monastery of Tur Abdin Region/Mardin Province (AD 397)

Gabriel Monastery was built in 397 and is located southeast of Midyat near the village of Karmin. It is the oldest functioning monastery of the Jacobite Church, known in modern times as the Syrian Orthodox Church. The bishop of Tur Abdin lives in the monastery.
