Mary Magdalene

Mary Magdalene was a dedicated disciple of Jesus from Galilee in northern Israel. Although there are numerous traditions concerning her, it is believed by some that she lived with the apostle John and Mary, Jesus’ mother, in Ephesus. Mary Magdalene died in Ephesus and was apparently buried in the Cave Church of the Seven Sleepers. In 899, it is believed that emperor Leo VI brought Mary’s physical remains to a monastery in Constantinople.
