What is God’s Love?

Jesus makes it clear that God’s love has no favoritism. We must love everyone–our friends and our enemies. For God’s love is universal and has no boundaries or limitations. God’s love is extraordinary.

Jesus taught:

“If you love only those who love you, why should you get a reward for that? For even tax collectors love those who love them (Matthew 5:46).

“And if you greet only your friends, you are no better than anyone else. For even the pagans greet their friends” (Matthew 5:47).

“If you love others like God loves, then your reward in heaven will be great. You will be the people of the Most High God. For God is merciful even to the ungrateful and wicked. If you love like this, you will be children of your Father in heaven. For God causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good. He sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous (Matthew 5:45).

The world will know us by our love!

However, this does not mean that Christians must love evil. For God hates evil. It is only God’s love that will truly motivate us to actively resist all evil.

To tolerate evil is not love. To remain silent about evil is not the love of God, because evil is what destroys human life. Evil only dehumanizes those who God has created in his image. To tolerate evil is to reject the love of God.
