Bishop Metrophanes of Byzantium/Istanbul (d. AD 326)
Metrophanes served as the bishop of Byzantium for 20 years, from 306 to 326. Metrophanes could not attend Nicea’s Ecumenical Church Council in 325 because he was old and in bad health, so he sent his faithful elder, Alexander. Alexander became the new bishop of Byzantium after Metrophanes’ death in 326.
