Martha of Antioch (d. AD 500s)

Living in Antioch (modern Antakya), Martha gave birth to a son named Simeon. After her husband died, Martha dedicated her life to God and to raising her son in a life of godliness. Martha was humble and full of mercy towards the poor. She fed and clothed those in need, visited the sick, and made white baptism garments for new followers of Jesus Christ.

Following his mother’s godly lifestyle, Simeon became a pillar-monk, and was later called Simeon of the Mountain of Wonder. When Martha died, her body was buried on the Mountain of Wonder, at the dwelling place of her son.
