Tatian (d. 185)

Tatian was probably born in Edessa. He traveled to Rome and became a student of Justin Martyr. Follow- ing Justin’s death in 165, Tatian left Rome and started a school in Mesopotamia. He engaged in mission journeys through the lands around the Euphrates River and his teaching had a major impact on the re- gion of Syria. Around 170, Tatian wrote a harmony of the four New Testament Gospels combined into a single narrative of the life of Jesus, called the Diatessaron. Tatian died around 185.
