The Cave Church of Peter in Antioch/Antakya (AD 300s-400s)

Antioch’s Cave Church of Peter was built in the late 300s or early 400s. Tradition tells us that early Christian community of Antioch (modern Antakya) gathered in this cave, although this is unlikely because early Christians usually met in homes and there was no known persecution at this time that would have forced them to secretly meet in a cave. The Feast Day of Peter is celebrated with a special worship service every June 29.
